Appointed late last year as Director of Business, Improvement & Research, (ajoint role spanning both the Medical and Nursing Directorates of NHSEngland), Steve has specialised throughout his career on improving publicservices for end users. He joined the NHS following a significant spell in LocalAuthorities and a University sponsored social research unit. Trained initiallyas a demographer and more recently as a health economist, he has led anumber of complex multi-organisational improvement programmes tosuccessful conclusion. His work is based around building successful, andinfluential, partnerships for change – particularly with clinicians. He leadsnationally on the establishment and licencing of Academic Health ScienceNetworks, and is a key leader in the new approach to the delivery of the 3Million Lives work. Prior to his appointment to NHS England Steve was theExecutive Director in the South responsible for the delivery of the NHSQuality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) transformation ofpatient pathways, and wider service change, across the region.
